Athletics

Participation in athletics is not only necessary for improving health and physical fitness, but also helps with motor skills and social skills. Being a part of a team promotes self-esteem, self-discipline and the desire to excel. Respect for authority, respect for the rights of others and the development of the highest ideals of fairness in human relationships are often the learning outcomes achieved through athletics. We believe these traits are carried over not only to classroom work, but also throughout our students' lives. All eligible students of Louisiana's Special School district are able to take advantage of the many athletic programs we offer, such as:

Basketball
Football
Bowling
Wrestling
Track and Field

On occasions our students and residents at all three campuses are able to engage in activities together through our SSD Games! These SSD games are designed to give all students ages 3 to 22 who have an Orthopedic Disability, Visual Impairment, Deaf, or Hard of Hearing the opportunities to compete in athletic ventures and to demonstrate physical fitness and skill levels.
