Special Education Advisory Council

The purpose of the SPED Council is to provide advice and feedback regarding special educational policies, procedures, and resources. Additionally, the SPED Council shall engage in outreach activities to the community at large to increase the level of knowledge, support and collaboration with respect to special education. Specifically, each SPED Council shall meet at least three times per year and shall submit a written report to the local superintendent in May of each year. Given the timeline for the report, it appears as though the term year refers to school year, rather than calendar year. The Act does not contain any stated sanction for failing to meet the requisite number of meetings, but all due effort should be made to ensure compliance.
